Denver, Colorado · City Break

The Mile High City & the gateway to the Rockies

Why Denver

A city with the mountains at its back

Denver sits exactly one mile above sea level, with 300 days of sunshine a year and the Front Range of the Rockies rising on the western horizon. Pair a few nights downtown with Rocky Mountain National Park, Boulder, or a wider Colorado fly-drive for one of the most varied short breaks in the USA.

When to visit

Denver weather & climate

Denver's dry, high-altitude climate is one of its biggest surprises. The city sees over 300 days of sunshine a year, more annual sun hours than Miami or San Diego, with just 8 to 15 inches of annual rainfall. Winters are mild, with average daily highs around 45°F (7°C), while summer brings warm, comfortable days and cool evenings. The thin, dry air means temperatures can shift quickly, so layers are your best friend at any time of year.

Eat & drink

Denver's food scene

Denver punches well above its weight as a foodie destination. The city holds Michelin-recognized restaurants and James Beard accolades, while its craft-beer culture runs deeper than almost anywhere in the USA, more breweries than any other city, with the second-highest count per capita. Beyond the beer gardens, expect inventive cocktail lounges, local wineries, and a calendar packed with food and drink festivals. Whether you're after sizzling street tacos in South Federal, farm-to-table dining in RiNo, or a classic steakhouse in LoDo, Denver's neighbourhoods each bring their own flavour to the table.
